The team of Tourism officials was headed by ADT HRD, Bengia Manna Sonam along with all the officials stationed at Pasighat for the ensuing festival.
BJP president to visit Arunachal in Apr 18
ITANAGAR, Mar 15: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Amit Shah will visit Arunachal Pradesh on April 18.
Besides addressing a public rally, he will attend various party programmes during his maiden visit to the state, informed state BJP.
Prior to his visit, party’s National General Secretary Ram Madhav will also arrive in the state in the last week of March and attend the ‘Pradesh Karyakarta Sammelan’ and other party programmes.
APCA condemns rape of Nun
ITANAGAR, Mar 15: Arunachal Pradesh Catholic Association (APCA) has strongly condemned the recent incident of gang rape of 72 year old nun in Ranaghat Convent, West Bengal.
Describing the incident as inhumane, APCA appealed to the government of West Bengal to give the culprits exemplary punishment.

Foreign tourists get stuck at Rly station
ITANAGAR, Mar 15: Two foreign tourists, who arrived here by train this morning, were reportedly stuck for some hours at Naharlagun Railway Station for not possessing Protected Area Permit (PAP).
Two foreign tourists, one Dutch and another Swedish, were stuck at Arrival Lodge at Naharlagun Railway Station as they did not possess PAP. They were handed over to M/s Mercy Tour & Travel, Itanagar for necessary help and assistance in getting PAP.
Later, PAPs for the tourist duo were arranged with the help of Director Tourism Karma Leki. Later, they proceeded to Pasighat to attend the Arunachal Spring Festival.
While informing this, the proprietor cum managing Director of M/s Mercy Tour & Travel, Tadar Robin urged the Railway department to give necessary information regarding the requirement of PAP/RAP for foreign tourist(s) visiting the state overleaf the train ticket as done for domestic tourists so that no tourist visiting the state faces such kind of embarrassing situation.
AGSU cries foul, Court gives stay order
ITANAGAR, Mar 15: Claiming that there was foul play in the selection process of Psychologist post which was conducted by the Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman District Health Society under National Health Mission on 27th February 2015, the All Galo Students Union (AGSU) demanded for immediate cancellation of the appointment.
In a press statement, AGSU claimed that genuine applicant Dagrik Gara was the lone candidate shortlisted by the District Medical Officer on 27th February 2015, however another candidate was appointed out of the blue.
The union questioned how come the authority allowed other candidate to appear in the interview whereas Gara was the only candidate shortlisted in the qualified list. It further added that the last date of submission of application of the said post was on 19th February 2015. It threatened to file criminal case against the authority, the District Health Society Pasighat in particular if it fails to deliver justice.
Meanwhile, Itanagar Bench of Guahati High Court issued a stay order for appointment of the said post till the further order.
AR constructs community hall, toilet blocks for villagers

Chinghan village is situated along the remote border of Myanmar.
The long awaited need of the local people has been fulfilled with the inauguration of the community hall which serves as a platform for the youth and old alike. The villagers expressed gratitude to the unit of Assam Rifles for its yeoman service and contribution to their village along the border belt with Myanmar.
The AR also constructed two toilets blocks at Chingkui village under its Op Samaritan project. The gesture of providing toilet blocks has been in sync with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Manney Kamhua, a 108 years old resident of the Chingkui village inaugurated the project.

ASU for indoor stadium at Subansiri stadium
ITANAGAR, Mar 15: Apatani Students’ Union (ASU) has appealed to the department concerned to start the construction works of Indoor Stadium at Subansiri Stadium, the only site well suited for the purpose.
ASU in a representation to Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner stated that a meeting was held under chairmanship of MLA Tage Taki on February 4 regarding construction of the indoor stadium. The meeting gave 20 days to find an alternative site for the project. However, no alternative site has been found during that period. Subsequently, go ahead signal for construction of the stadium was given, the representation said.
The students’ union has appealed to all unions, NGOs not to interfere in the construction of the stadium. It further urged the contractor concerned to complete the project in time as per the DPR by maintaining quality.

ITANAGAR, Mar 15: Dean of College of Horticulture and Forestry (CHF), Pasighat, Dr. AK Pandey emphasized on growing genetically modified crops for development of agriculture sector.
Addressing the inauguration programme on methods in microbial biotechnology at CHF, Pasighat yesterday, Dr. Pandey said that cultivation of transgenic crops like Golden Rice, BT Cotton and BT Brinjal etc. can make the miracle in the development of agriculture sector.
Dr. Pandey also highlighted the inception of biotechnology in India and how the biotechnological tools can be used in increasing the productivity as well as the quality of various crops and their varieties.
He also informed about application of bio fertilizers such as PSB, VAM, Rhizobium culture etc in organic farming. He also discussed about the application of microbial biotechnology in bioremediation, removal of oil spillage, control of water pollution etc.
The training is conducted by the Department of Basic Science and Humanities under Institutional Biotechnology Hub with a objective to create biotechnological awareness, popularizing the biotechnological knowhow among the undergraduate, postgraduate students and academicians on application and importance of microbes in science especially biotechnology.
Earlier, Siddhartha Singh, Course Director and Assistant Professor, Biochemistry, emphasized on application of microbial biotechnology in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, horticulture and medicine for developing vaccines to prevent various diseases, and GM crops to improve the quality of products suitable for international trade.
A total of 45 trainees are attending the four days. All the faculty members, technical staff of the College of Horticulture & Forestry, Pasighat were present in inaugural session. The training programme is sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India.

Orgs, volunteers distribute relief, reconstruct dwelling house
ITANAGAR, Mar 15: A dwelling house of a police constable Ramge Tayam was destroyed in a fire mishap at Chimpu (Itanagar) on March 13 last. There was no report of any casualty. Tea Board organizes workshop for small tea growers
ITANAGAR, Mar 15: Tea Board organized awareness programmes on the Plant Protection Code as well as ‘Scientific Cultivation of Tea for small tea growers of the state at a tea garden at Upper Jumi village near Kimin on March 13 and Sonajuli yesterday.
The workshop dwelt on tea pest management, including use of pesticide, storage, transportation and disposal of pesticide containers.
The awareness programmes also aimed at helping the small tea growers to face no problem in supplying green leaves to BLF from coming season.
The small tea growers were also imparted training on various scientific aspects of tea cultivation such as new planting, tipping, plucking, pests and disease management, IPM practices in controlling major pests of tea, young tea and mature tea fertilization etc by Tea Board officials from Itanagar as well as North Lakhimpur.
Bapi Techi, a prominent grower of Sonajuli said that tea cultivation being a very scientific agriculture the STGs must update their knowledge through such workshops.
Taba Taro, a prominent tea grower urged the youths to take up tea cultivation in the locality area as a good source of livelihood.
Earlier, Tana Tad, District Secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Small Tea Growers’ Association explained the aims and objective of the workshop.
More than 80 growers, progressive farmers of Upper Jumi, Kamasaki, Kimin, Kakoi, Durpang, Sonajuli etc attended the awareness programme cum workshop.
Transform strictures of NERPAP into reality, DC asks officers
BOMDILA, Mar 15: West Kameng Deputy Commissioner AK Singh has urged the administrative officers to transform the strictures of the National Electoral Rolls Purification and Authentication Programme (NERPAP) into reality involving all the stake holders in their respective segments.
Taking serious note of the lackadaisical attitude of the political parties at a meeting on NERPAP here today, Singh directed the administrative officers to ensure appointment of booth level agents by the political parties in their respective assembly constituency segments.
The DC Singh spoke at length on the objectives of the NERPAP, the methodology of Aadhar feeding, preparatory activities, role of the EROs, AEROs and Dos, BLOs, partnership with the stakeholders, work plan and the monitoring and submission of the time bound reports.
As of date, 56 percent has been achieved under NPR in the district. The second round would begin on March 20 with all the logistic support from the concerned administrative officers in the remaining areas.
The Deputy Commissioner urged the administrative officers to vigorously pursue the Chief Minister’s Universal Health Insurance Scheme for the welfare of the people and to ensure proper conduct of the ongoing CBSE examination.
The meeting was attended by the EROs, AEROs, BLOs, DF&CSO, DSO (Stat), service providers for the Biometric enrolment for Aadhar cards and others. DIPRO.

Respect our ancestors
Dear Editor,
It is nice to see people having varied discussion about the decision of the state government in regards to renaming of important government structures in the name of former state leaders. It is unfortunate to know that Congress led state government has no regards for ancestor of Tani group of tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. Abo Tani is our supreme commander, god, father and everything for kind information. This immature decision of the state government to remove the name of Abo Tani by naming former state leader in its place is not a wise decision as nobody is above Abo Tani for us. This decision of the State Government has deeply hurt our sentiments as it is a direct insult to that tribe whose ancestor is Abo Tani. State government should rather encourage and support scholars to do research on Abo Tani as he was considered one of the intelligent men on earth.
Further naming of any important government structures should not be judged by name rather we should honour only those former state leaders who have contributed selflessly for the development of the society and state irrespective of any party one may belong to (Mango or Apple etc). Moreover by not remembering former state leaders like Baken Pertin, T.C Teli and others on party line, the state government has somewhat hurt our sentiments.

Let’s make our beautiful state a land of ‘Paradise’
Dear Editor,
I feel happy to be born in this state of ours where everything we need have been made available by the Almighty God.
Indeed, we have been blessed with abundant rivers and rivulets, highest flora and fauna, deep forest of varied species and commercially valued mineral and Mining, Cement Oil etc. Above these, mesmerizing natural beauty with unique landscape like plateau, small hills and Himalayan ranges on the top. Nature has truly endowed our people with a deep sense of beauty which finds delightful expression in their songs, dances and unique crafts.
The land is so vast with thin population comprising of many tribes and varied fascinating cultures. The people are also very honest, hospitable, compassionate, soft spoken and innocent. In every state level event, rich cultural items of various tribes are being exhibited which mesmerize the audience.
However with the advent of modernity and developmental activities, our people have abruptly changed. People have become so aggressive, greedy and over ambitious that even close friends turn bitter enemy and do not hesitate to use lethal weapons to kill each other or brutally injure. Many people have learnt how to earn easy money by threatening officers without doing anything and looting business communities.
In the event of floating tenders, many will start campaigning the Minister, MLAs and concerned officers to help them get the contract work but never complete the work as per specification or DPR. After securing the tender, the contractors shall apply his best technique to get the bill passed without having done the work as per the terms and conditions of the works. This is the main cause of slow developmental activities in our state. All these happen because of lack of sense of belongingness and over ambition. Those people who do not get contract or supply work, they adopt easy method of collecting forceful donation from various officers particularly engineers and business communities on various pretexts. These criminal and immoral activities are quite disturbing and create fear psychosis in every one's mind. No engineers or officers dealing with financial matters are willing to sit in the office in fear of physical assault, misbehaviour, abuses and forceful demand. Even in the capital itself where police are available, people are not secured.
Even the press who maintain neutrality are not spared which is not heard of in other states. Thus our state once called a land of peace is turning to be a land of horror and disturbances which is a serious concern for the people who want development and peace.
Arunachalees who were once called peace loving people can emulate the hospitality of Thailand. Until and unless tourism sector is fully developed with required infrastructures and people are hospitable, the economic condition of our rural people shall remain the same.
In the recent past, there was a report of snatching cameras, imposing huge fine on slight touch of vehicles and rude behavior. Such incidents are very unfortunate and have negative impacts in the mind of tourists.
I appeal my fellow brethrens to use available resources judiciously with feelings of belongingness. We also need to change our rude and unethical behavior and learn ethical values to attract more tourists.

An unfortunate walkout
Dear Editor,
Legislative assembly being the topmost institution in a parliamentary democracy wherein
issues and policies affecting the lives of people of the state, are discussed, debated
and solutions arrived at, it is extremely unfortunate on the part of the so called
disciplined BJP to boycott the entire proceeding of the assembly. Such a tactics
is nothing but a cruel joke played on the public who have elected them to represent
their grievances and aspirations. The irresponsible behaviors of the legislators
are unpardonable especially considering the fact that the same party has the mandate
of the people at the centre Government. Instead of throwing lights as to what the
legislators have done to ensure bigger allocations with the help their party MP cum
State Ministry of Home Affairs Govt. of India Kiren Rijiju, the party MLAs have decided
to shy away from their responsibilities. The negative tactics such as non release
of funds on the flimsy ground of non submission of UCs for a project by the state
Govt is doing no good to the people of the state. The fact of the matter is that
the BJP supreme of Arunachal Pradesh Kiren Rijiju has time and again stated on records
that no files of the state Govt. sent to various Ministries of the Centre would be
approved without his signal. such a negatives politics did not go well with the people
and as a result the party candidates had to pay the price at the recently concluded
assembly elections in 58th -
My humble appeal to Kiren Rijiju therefore, would be stop such a parochial approach and immediately allow the state Govt. and it is people to take full advantages of his high posting as the same people have loved him and voted him to power. Unless this is done, the people of the state will not just remain contacted with his continuous presence in the social media and might even vote him out of power in 2019 parliament election.

Through your esteemed daily, I would like to highlight that the students of Govt. Schools in capital complex are denied stipend whereas students of other parts of state enjoys this privilege. As we know that majority of students of Govt. Schools belongs to poor family, the concerned authority/ department should realise that students in capital complex faces lots of problems to go to school by tempo, trekker, procuring books and others necessary items. If the students are given stipend it will encourage us to attend our classes regularly and help us immensely in meeting our daily expenses. Also, I would be glad if the students unions look into this matter seriously.

Initiate strong action
In yet another controversial statement which has the potential to create rift between various communities, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy yesterday stated that mosque is only a building where prayers are being offered but not a religious place. He also claimed that mosque can be demolished anytime. Swamy made this controversial statement while attending a programme at Guwahati. BJP leader also allegedly made derogatory remarks against Assamese people on the issue of land swap deal with Bangladesh.
His statement has evoked strong reaction and an FIR has been lodged against him. In the ethnically sensitive region like north east, where often clashes break out between various groups, a statement like that of Mr Swamy can add fire to the fuel. Ever since BJP came to power at centre their leaders and members of greater Sangh parivar has been making series of controversial statements targeting the minority groups like Muslim and Christians. Due to such hate campaigns, today the minority communities are feeling insecure and sense of anxiety engulfs them. Sadly government of India on their part has not done enough to dose off the fear and anxiety gripping the minority groups. BJP should initiate strong action against people like Subramanian Swamy to send stern message.
